GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Voltage Control Unit(AVR) is a solid state, encapsulated, state of the art design with latest technology.
The AVR is supplying power to the exciter field of A.C. generator and will maintain generator voltage within close limits from no load to full load, with a frequency change of not more than +- 4%.
Upon application or rejection of rated load, the generator voltage recovers to nominal value within 0.5 sec. However, the transient performance is mainly dependent upon the exciter & a.c. generator design aspects.
Under some circumstances the a.c. generator wave shape changes considerably from no-load to rated load due to the typw of load, hence the r.m.s average or the peak voltage does not stay in proportion. For more than 10% harmonic distortion, the voltage regulation may be outside the limit specified.
Unbalanced load on 3 phase a.c. generators also produces regulation figures outside the limit.
AVR has been tested at factory and set to standard voltage, frequency and stability prior t the despatch.
AVR has been incorporated with special filters to perform satisfactorily or no linear loads.

DESCRIPTION

The Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) Control Panel is designed for use with Low Voltage A.C. Generator. The AVR panel is comprises of voltage control circuits, meterings and protection. The AVR will supply power to the exciter field of A.C. Generator and will maintain generator voltage within close limits for any load, from no load to full load. The AVR panel has provision for Two Auto modes. Auto mode has got two AVRs(AVR-a and AVR-2)

AVR selector switch is provided to select AVR-1 or AVR-2

The AVR panel is capable of providing large field forcing voltage to me exciter field to achieve fast voltage recovery under transient conditions. Close voltage regulation of the A.C. Generator is ensured by a high gain amplifier and a Thyristor Convertor. Unbalanced load on 3 phase A.C. Generator also produces regulation figures out side limit.

The main function of the AVR panel is to regulate the terminal voltage of the generator, safe operation for under speed running, to facilitate parallel operation among generators, to vary terminal voltage by means of V-Trim pot and to read/record various excitation parameters.

The input to this system is provided from the generator terminals and the output of the system is connected to exciter field of the generator.
